Phones and cameras record much more data than the picture needs. Video Compressor re-encodes your videos in H.265 on your Mac’s own video hardware. In our tests they came out about 84% smaller, with the picture, sound, date, place and orientation kept.
See it before you replace anything
Add a folder and see straight away how much space each video, and your whole library, would free. Pick High, Medium or Low, then compare short previews side by side with the original: zoom in, play, step through moments. Each preview is made exactly as the final file will be.
Nothing is lost
- Originals are never altered and never permanently deleted. They go to the Bin, to a folder you choose, or stay where they are.
- Nothing replaces an original until you validate it and commit.
- Every compressed video is checked against its original (length, pictures, sound, date, location, colour, HDR) before it counts. A copy that fails, or isn’t smaller, is thrown away.
- Stop at any time and carry on later. What’s done stays done.
Keeps what matters
- Capture date and GPS location, so videos stay in the right place in your library
- Portrait stays portrait
- HDR10 and HLG in 10-bit, and the original colour
- Sound tracks copied bit for bit
- Frame rate and timing, including variable frame rate
Works with the videos you have
iPhone and Android phones, cameras, GoPro and DJI, camcorders (AVCHD, MiniDV, HDV), screen recordings and old archives: .mov, .mp4, .m4v, .avi, .3gp, .mpg, .mts, .m2ts, .dv, .mod and more. Folders on your Mac or on external drives. Videos still in iCloud are never downloaded. The results play on iPhone, iPad, Mac and in Photos.
Videos that aren’t worth compressing (already small, slow motion, Cinematic, spatial) are left alone, with the reason shown.
Private by design
Your videos never leave your Mac. No account, no upload, no tracking.
